Service Description

This workshop is inspired by Sonya Renee Taylor's words: “Radical self love is not the work of singular super heroes but of community and connection . . . We must learn to be together if we want to get free.” - The Body is Not an Apology I love how Sonya aligns self-love with social service; the cultivation of self trust with the building of community. She goes on: “Learning to trust others is indivisible from learning to trust ourselves; we need to practice both to get back to self love.” I.e. INTRApersonal growth and INTERpersonal connection are inextricable. My mind has agreed with this for a long time. But it's taken me years to feel and trust this unity between self and other in my emotional and physical body. Showing up, standing up for others, leaning on others, playing and collaborating with others, IS part of the creative self-care cycle. But it's an aspect of our healing grossly underemphasized by a self-care industrial complex that capitalizes on the consumption habits of the individual. And, if you have a history of getting hurt (who doesn't?), trusting others can be damn scary. Partner yoga has helped me physicalize, enjoy and repair trust in this bridge from self to communal care; from inner healing to social connection & responsibility. Partner yoga playfully choreographs the connectedness that shapes our entire lives. WE WILL: - Discuss the relationship between individual and communal care in as we experience it now. - Meditate on how our individual wholeness + the wholeness & healing of our world might not be so separate after all. - Use a Parts-Work model to compassionately explore the parts of us who are resistant to social connection, as well as those who desire it, and see if we can partner them up to honor our core values. - Have a lot of fun. This work is playful. We will laugh, maybe fall, and feel like kids on a playground (/insert positive childhood memory) THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR YOU IF: - You are tired of self-isolating during exercise Find yourself in your head/befallen by critical thoughts when you move - Want to create more collaborative postures/ shapes in your life, on the mat or beyond. - Want to prove to a friend or partner that yoga is fun - Feel excited and curious after reading this. Whatever brings you, I hope you leave with the awareness that connection is available to you in any moment, exactly how you are. *Address to private residence will be shared when you sign up I can't wait to meet you :)
